Hey guys, it’s Sami here. Just a quick write up of yesterday’s Parahyangan Alumni Day 2016, where Ata and I did a food stall at the Parahyangan Alumni Day 2016.
Yes, once upon a time, way back when, I went to law school at Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung. This is first edition of Parahyangan Alumni Day 2016 which comprises of a series of workshops for “Career Day” for current students, followed by a bazaar, music and entertainment by the alumni, as well as a street food market.
My friends, who helped organise the event, roped me into doing one of the 12 food stalls. I wanted to do it, yet at the same time, I had had a busy week working in Malang and didn’t have much time to prepare anything in advance. Plus, Angki (AKA Mufi) was away in Singapore for the Madonna Rebel Heart tour concert, so I had Ata to look after all weekend. Father-and-daughter weekend it is!
A compromise: doing something I’d already perfected and something easy. So our menu looked like the above picture: waffles with chocolate drizzle or cinnamon sugar, cheese toasties, chicken tacos and chicken quesadillas. I’d have liked to make strawberry jam to go with cream cheese in the toasties to make a sort of strawberry cheesecake toastie sandwich, but strawberries weren’t in season, and I was pressed for time making other types of jam (apple-cinnamon chutney comes to mind).

Testing and perfecting the waffle recipe at home.

So, Saturday morning, Ata and I prepped everything, and got to the Parahyangan University campus to set up. We hung our banner in the booth, got our stuff laid out and got ready for the hungry crowd to show up.
When she wasn’t off playing mini golf and bingo in the bazzar, Ata helped with the finishing of the waffles (“chocolate-drizzler girl”) and generally making the booth look good ; )

It was a fun way to spend Saturday, was good to see old university friends and make food for the event visitors. Since they plan on doing this annually, I think I’ll participate again. I’ll plan and prep a menu properly for the next edition.
See you next year at PAD2017!
