Xin Nian Kuai Le and Gong Xi Fa Cai! Happy Chinese New Year and wishing you a (financially) prosperous year!
My family didn’t culturally celebrate Chinese New Year but growing up, many of our friends and neighbours did. We’d often get invited to share a CNY meal of uncut noodles for long life, and lots and lots of dumplings; jiao zi when boiled or steamed, guo tie when panfried.
This year, our friend Meng hosted a Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner. Yay! A bunch of us came early to help make the dumplings, and we were rewarded with getting to taste the first batch with various sauces. As usual, a special pot of chilli had to be dished out for me because the “spicy” one was not producing enough disco in my mouth.
It was a warm celebration, with great food, good friends and relaxed vibe. A happy end of Sunday!
